Thanks for the great advice. Our Lab is 20 months old and is still being drilled daily with the basics and is enjoying some freedoms. He has been pushing boundaries during his pack walks with a dog walker. We reckon it’s due to the hormones and feeling more secure with his pack. We will reinforce the basics and scale back the freedoms for a bit.

I can't thank you enough for actually HELPING people to be better handlers and trainers of their dogs. Other trainers out there can be so belittling, sarcastic, and rude that who would ever want to ask a question for fear of being chastised.

I have 3 dogs, 2 yr old Lab a 2 1/2 yr old Lab and 2 1/2 yr old Corso. We walk 2 times a day and train every day, weekends and holidays included. They are well behaved and well socialized. Couldn't agree more with never take your foot off the gas.

I was ready for the teenage stage and expected it. We train every day of our dogs lives and even though it was frustrating it was alot less so because I knew it was coming. My lab passed through it in months whereas my 5 year old Australian Shepherd is a perpetual teenager and will always have to be closely watched. He knows what he’s supposed to do but argues about everything.

Will, YOU are a fantastic human, dog trainer and dog behaviourist !!!! And you are totally correct!!! I made the HUGE error of giving my 18 month old GSD too much freedom from 4 months on. I know have a highly socialized dog who LOVES other dogs, people and everything else but sees me as his provider, not owner. We are having the worst time of training "heel" but, since I'm an old lady and know that every dog eventually, YES, gets it, and gets it all, keeps me engaged, training and loving my absolutely loving dog.....PS: Due to the over-socialization, he is PERFECT with other dogs and people..NOT a mean bone in his body..........................

This is such wonderful advice! I feel very fortunate to have found your videos before getting my Rottweiler. I got him when he was 16 weeks old and "started as I mean to go on" like you so wisely put it. My boy is now 10 months old and has come so long with his obedience. He's not at 100%, but that's ok. We still do training drills and 2-3 walks every day, and now trying to proof his skills in different environments each week. My biggest challenges are engagement and our bond. He's still intact and incredibly independent (I think I picked the Alpha pup by mistake). However, as he ages, I see him looking to me more for guidance and our bond improving. I owe so much thanks to you, Will! ❤

PLEASE READ WILL I drove around my whole city, in pajama pants. There was no speed limit to me and I had chemicals that create sulphuric acid. 1000/ppm and your done. I was SCREAMING in the car, weeping, than laughing. Went home, decided to do it in my driveway. Managed to get out through a rose bush, yet one sniff and to this day my sense of taste and smell can't detect a roast beef or slow cooker. Anything savoury. My panic attacks freeze me I feel I might fall down if my death grip let's go of the bar. There's no warning at all. Ever have one while driving? Considering the wrong side of the 😊road and shifting with my bad shoulder neck arm. That'd give a panic attack.😂

I'm so sorry ii Just heard about Eileen. My dog had to be put down suddenly annd my mother had a heart attack in my car down the highway two weeks later. It's been six years and I haven't started to grieve. The day after, a friend called me seeking support as his dog had eaten something and was in bad shape. That stalled my grief. I'm always simmering and suffer agoraphobia. Some days I don't go out b/c I'm afraid what someone might say or do to set me off. Or, that I may have a cardiac event. My dad's in an old folks home and lastly, I lost my phone with all my dog pics. Throw in ADHD which I wasn't mindful of my behavior until my 40's. That lost phone? There are no friends on it as I realized that I'd been used for years. Upside is my landlord has a Mastador and I'm really seeing the independent mastiff traits. Take care of your mental health. I talk it all the time I'll go through walls chasing the stigma down. Condolences and respect.😢

Check out Andy Krueger's Dog Training videos. His Malinois are amazing and he gives great advice about the breed. I think Mals require 1000 times more mental and physical stimulation than the average dog owner can give. I'd love to have one, but I know they are just "too much", LOL.

My dog is in the teenage phase😩 9 months old. Hes a border collie/heeler/catahoula/pointer mix and nonstop energy. I work with him every day and play with him 3 times(or more) a day, trying to wear him out. He's the sweetest boy, one minute, then Satan's spawn the next🤣 I can tell he's going to be a great dog though😊 Thanks for all the training tips!

Thank you for saying not aggressive. People think my pittie is aggressive but she’s exactly like you said, anxious and fearful. I am using your training tactics and she’s doing better day by day I just need to be patient with her. She literally loves people and dogs she just gets caught up in her anxiety.

Our mostly lab mix was a zen master. Devoted to our family, winning over kids and people who were scared of large dogs, teaching our kids empathy and unconditional love (except for squirrels we told her to chase off the bird feeder), she was a family member we could count on for 13 amazing years.
